Instructions for Submitting a Tick for Testing

 

 

 

IMUGEN provides testing services for the detection of B. burgdorferi (Lyme Disease spirochete) and B. microti (Babesia parasite) by polymerase chain reaction (PCR).  This testing is performed on Ixodes scapularis ticks only.

 

Any non-deer ticks (i.e. Dermicentor variabilis or Amblyoma americanum) that are received will be retained for 14 days.  Please contact us prior to the expiration of the 14th day if you want your tick returned.  Any remaining ticks will be discarded.

 

Requirements for Tick Testing

 

Ticks WILL NOT be tested if placed in alcohol or on tape.

 

Place tick in a ziplock bag, then into a padded envelope or crushproof container.

 

Fill out a requisition with your name and address so a result can be mailed to you.

 

Please note that the charge for tick testing is as follows:

 

  • $75.00 for B. burgdorferi (Lyme Disease spirochete)
  • $75.00 for B. microti (Babesia parasite)
  • $98.00 for both B. burgdorferi and B. microti

 

Checks or signed credit card information must accompany ticks or testing will not be performed. Ticks should be sent to:

Results are available in approximately 15 business days following receipt of tick.
