Lyme Serum and Concomitant CSF Antibody Analysis

Serum and CSF samples are tested quantitatively for IgM, IgG and IgA antibodies to B. burgdorferi using kinetic antibody capture enzyme immunoassays (EIA). The result will include a CSF/serum specific antibody ratio determination for each antibody isotype. The serum sample will also be tested by immunoblots. If the acute specimen is negative (i.e. antibodies undetectable) and the clinical history strongly suggests infection, collect a convalescent specimen 3-4 weeks later.
